A native of Immokalee, Florida, Edgerrin James was born on August 1, 1978. Currently playing the position of quarterback for the NFLs Arizona Cardinals, James has had a lot of practice when it comes to competition. After being recruited directly out of Immokalee High School in Florida, Edgerrin James enrolled in the University of Miami where he became one of the most successful running backs in the schools history. Not only did he rank second in all-time rushing yards at the University of Miami, Edgerrin James was also the only running back in the universitys history to post two consecutive seasons with 1,000+ rushing yards. In addition, he holds the schools record for most rushing touchdowns in a single season, which is currently 17, and also ranks first with the most 100+ rushing games. From the University of Miami, Edgerrin James was drafted in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. After signing a seven year contract, which was said to be worth $49 million, the Associated Press named Edgerrin James as the NFLs Offensive Rookie of the Year. As James contract with the Colts expired, he immediately signed a new deal on March 12, 2006 with the Arizona Cardinals. Reportedly worth $30 million, the new agreement is said to consist of four years and is the Cardinals largest free agent signing in history. In addition to his many accomplishments on the field, Edgerrin James is making his mark outside of the 50 yard line. He has one daughter and has donated $250,000 to the Univeristy of Miami, which is the largest to ever be made to the university by one of its former athletes. In addition, he has established the Edgerrin James Foundation, which is a charitable organization for underprivileged children and families. As the 2006 NFL season approaches, fans will continue to watch James as he hopes to lead the Cardinals to a SuperBowl victory. While it is very early to be thinking about the last game, most athletes strive toward that same goal with every step taken on the field. Fans will surely be delighted in the Cardinals newest quarterback and will anxiously await to see what he has to offer. |
